Every year there’s that one Christmas present that is all the rage. In the 90’s you had stuff like Tickle Me Elmo and Beanie Babies. I wish I was a parent back in those days, as buying a plush toy is a lot cheaper than the products that are all the rage these days. My son wanted a hoverboard for Christmas this year, and since I can’t say no to him, that’s exactly what he got.
Finding the Best Hoverboard
I knew that he wanted a hoverboard. He wasn’t exactly shy about letting me know that fact. But that’s where the harder part comes in. There are so many different styles and manufacturers, how do you know which one to buy? Luckily I had a resource like this hoverboard review site to point me in the right direction on choosing the top one that fits my budget and my son’s wants.
If you are not familiar with these gadgets, and only really know of them because of Back to the Future Part II, don’t be misled by the name. You won’t be like Michael J. Fox and glide a few inches above the ground. How they work is they are a two-wheeled platform that you stand on, and you move it by using your balance. Lean forward and you’ll move forward. Lean backward and you’ll roll in reverse. Put a little pressure at the toe on your left foot and you’ll turn, and vice versa with your right foot.
When it comes to buying a product like this, from what I’ve read is that you don’t want to underspend on them, or you’ll get a crappy product. Pretty self-explanatory there, as is the story with most technology. A cheaply made model can be a safety hazard, both in terms of poor performance and also from the component materials it is made of.
I ended up buying my son the model that is listed #1 on the site that I mentioned earlier, the Skque X1/I Series – UL2272, and he absolutely loves it. You could say that his feet haven’t touched the ground around our house ever since! It’s funny, but he literally has it right next to his bed. The first thing he does when he wakes up is steps onto it and cruises into the bathroom. When he’s done getting ready, he wheels his way into the kitchen for breakfast before school.
The reason that I bought the model that I did is because of the solid reviews I read and the specifications it has. The battery life is unmatched, and the battery pack itself is made out of high-quality materials that aren’t in any danger of bursting into flames like low-rent models. Seriously, Google it and you’ll find stories like that. It is made of durable material that won’t break, and the sensors are perfectly calibrated that make it a smooth riding experience. Even I, clumsy as I am, have started to master it.
I know that my son loves his hoverboard, and I’ve been having a little fun with it myself. It’s been a great gift and a fun thing to have around the house. Definitely take a look at that resource I linked to above and find the best hoverboard for you!
This was a little bit of a departure from my usual updates, but as my son wheels around my home office as I write this, I felt I had to share about the new tech around the house on this site. As always, thanks for reading!
